A Windsor mother is recalling the terrifying moments her family endured during a shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport.
Kim Larievere, her husband and two daughters were at the airport Friday afternoon waiting for a flight home when people started screaming and running.
"In today's day and age, I knew it was pretty serious and when officers were running and screaming get down, get down, my husband and I threw our kids under the seats and laid on top of our kids," says Larievere.
It didn't take long for Larievere and her husband to realize, they had to get out.
"When people were jumping over us and running toward down the tunnel and we realized that we can't stay here and we grabbed our kids and pushed our way through the crowd and we got to the stairs that go down to the tarmac."
After being outside of the airport for an hour, travelers were allowed to return to terminal 2, but then it happened again where people were screaming and running.
"My 8-year-old lets go of my hand and runs down to get to daddy. We are falling over suitcases and we have to go back out the same stairs and everyone was screaming there were multiple shooters and no one knew where they were."
Larievere is emotional as she recounts the events but says despite being stranded with nothing, she is grateful her family is o.k.
They are currently waiting to get their belongings which they left at the airport before they return home.
Five people died in the shooting.
