WINDSOR — A Windsor man will learn his sentence later this week in a 2018 death in the city.
Back in October 2019, Lamar Day, 29, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a 37-year-old man.
In September 2018, police were called to an apartment building at 395 University Ave. East near McDougall St. and found the victim with obvious signs of trauma.
Two people were arrested at the time.
During a sentencing hearing in Superior Court on Monday, the crown asked for a prison term of eight to ten years, while the defence is asking for a sentence of less than five years with credit for time already served.
Court heard Day has a son and has been taking part in certain programs while in custody.
Day stood in court today and told the judge he was very sorry and that he is trying to better himself to lead to a productive life.
A publication ban prevents any details about the crime from being released as the case for the co-accused, 26-year-old Raheem Washington charged with first-degree murder, is still before the courts.
Justice Bruce Thomas will hand down his sentence for Lamar Day on Thursday, February 6th
