WINDSOR — A Windsor man has pleaded guilty in the beating death of his father.
David Sura, 40, pleaded guilty in Superior Court on Thursday to manslaughter in the death of 66-year-old Thomas Sura Sr. in June 2018.
He had originally been charged with first-degree-murder.
The two men had been drinking at the father's home on Everts Ave. and had even gone to the LCBO to purchase more alcohol.
For unknown reasons, the younger Sura began punching and kicking his father in the face, head and torso.
The younger Sura then washed his hands and left, but called 911 saying "I beat his ass to an inch of his life."
The older Sura died of "multiple blunt force traumatic injuries," and had a blood-alcohol level in his system that was close to three times the legal limit.
During the plea, the younger Sura said in court, "I didn't want him to die from it."
Court heard the older Sura had been an alcoholic and abusive, beating members of his family when the children were young.
Another sibling took the stand and described growing up in the household as "hell" and that he became good at hiding and that David Sura would take care of him — stepping in when their father became abusive.
In 2017, prior to the beating on Everts, the 40-year-old Sura was involved in an ATV crash and suffered a brain injury.
A sentencing hearing is set for March 13th at 9am
