A 38-year-old Windsor man has received a suspended sentence along with 24 months of probation after pleading guilty to an indecent act at the downtown Windsor aquatic centre.
Hassan Al-Harari pled guilty last month to assault and indecent act charges after he was caught pleasuring himself in a shower area at the aquatic centre.
The court heard Al-Harari was also seen giving a young person a consensual back massage.
Al-Harari's lawyer Laura Joy says her client is a political refugee from Syria and was only in Canada for six to eight weeks when the incident occurred.
"He's apologized and expressed his remorse through the guilty plea and on this type of case that means a lot," says Joy. "The young man was spared from having to testify."
Al-Harari's probation terms include not attending Adventure Bay or any public swimming pool. He cannot communicate with the victim and must provide a DNA sample.
Al-Harari also has to attend counselling.
The incident took place in May 2016.
