A Windsor man has been charged for allegedly abusing a dog he was taking care of.
The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society has laid charges of causing distress to an animal under the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Act.
The accused was caring for two dogs for their owner who was in the hospital.
During that time, elevator surveillance video on September 3rd captured the suspect throwing the shih tzu type dog against a wall and hitting the dog on the head several times.
Both dogs have been returned to the care of their owner.
The dog is o.k.
"It is really disturbing because the dog, not that any dog would deserve it, but the dog is not doing anything," says Windsor-Essex County Humane Society Executive Director Melanie Coulter. "It is calmly walking onto the elevator, it is a pretty disturbing video."
The accused's first court appearance will be February 6th.
Under the humane society's policy, it will not release the name of the individual until there has been a conviction.
If convicted, the charge carries a possible sentence of two years in jail or a $60,000 fine.
