The City of Windsor is putting a call out for local musicians to take part in this year’s Live at The Square concert series.
The free, weekly music event will return to City Hall Square on September 10, and will run every Thursday evening until October 1.
The concerts will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the city looking for four different local performers or groups.
The series is funded through Enbridge Fueling Futures and is designed to bring free live entertainment to downtown Windsor.
Samantha Magalas, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities Programming with the City of Windsor, says the city is looking for a wide variety of local talent.
“We’d like to be aware of any of our local artists that are looking to participate. There’s a selection committee that’s made-up of community partners that will help us select the artists that will participate in, but we’re certainly looking for a variety of genres. You know, anybody that’s interested and able to play and the more local the better.”
She says it’s a great way to encourage people to gather together in the downtown core.
“It’s encouraging people to come out, meet their local community, bring some friends out, have a listen to the music. We’ll have food trucks on site as well. And then following the event, if they want to head downtown and maybe grab a beverage or meet up with some other friends. It’s just really working to help us activate that space, but also attract our residents downtown.”
Magalas says the response last year was great.
“We had a very positive response from the community last year. We started off, and every week you could see the audience was growing and growing. And so we really wanted to look to activate that again this year. And we’re excited that Enbridge was able to support us in that endeavour again. And we look forward to making it even better in 2026.”
Individual performers must be based in Windsor-Essex, while groups must have at least half of their members from the region.
Selected performers will receive an honorarium starting at $300 dollars for a two-hour set.
Applications are now open. Performances must be respectful, inclusive and appropriate for an all-ages audience.
Successful applicants will be notified. Artists who aren’t available for the September and October dates are still encouraged to apply to be considered for future events.
