Windsor has launched a new tool to help people get a better idea of the city's history in Walkerville.
The new Walkerville Heritage Walking Tour is a mobile friendly website that gives people self-guided tours of 50 points of interest such as heritage homes, Willistead Manor, the Bank of Montreal architecture and Walkerville Brewery.
If people don't have internet access on their phone, they can download a PDF version and print off a copy.
Brewery President Mike Brkovich hopes it encourages visitors to Walkerville, to do a little exploring.
"I think we are rich in history and I think it is only going to create an environment where people will want to come and visit," he says. "I think it is for residents who don't know what is in their own backyard, I think a lot of Windsorites in Essex County, people in our community don't realize the rich history that we have in Walkerville."
Mayor Drew Dilkens says it will be a tourism boost to help residents and visitors.
"It is something that anyone can do and enjoy it at your own convenience," says Mayor Dilkens. "Walkerville, I always say, Windsor would be a shadow of itself if it wasn't for Hiram Walker and what he created."
There was a walking tour in 2017 in Sandwich and one is in progress for Ford City.
A statue of Hiram Walker has been completed and is set to be unveiled next summer at the corner of Riverside Dr. and Devonshire Rd.
