The 20th anniversary of the annual Ruth and Bernard Friedman Windsor Jewish Film Festival returns Monday, April 24 through Thursday, April 27.
Ten films will be showcased at Cineplex Odeon Devonshire Mall for the 2023 season, including Farewell Mister Haffman; Where Life Begins; Hitler's Aunt; Barren; Tango Shalom; Image of Victory; The Replacement; Those Who Remained; Time to Say Goodbye; and Four Winters.
A jury panel of volunteers selected and vetted each film.
Joe Schnayer, Head of Programming with Windsor Jewish Federation & Community Centre says the goal of the festival is to share the Jewish story.
"A lot of our films are about The Holocaust or other events in Jewish history. It's really about telling our story. A lot of people think the festival is just for Jewish people to attend but I really that's a misconception. Our goal to get non-jewish people in the theatre as well so they hear our story, " he said.
Schnayer says the biggest attraction at this year's festival would be the closing film 'Four Winters', "And essentially it kinda just goes over the common misconception that Jewish people during The Holocaust were very passive and docile and just kind of went with the program. It's a documentary describing Jewish resistance fighters who fought against the Nazi's."
He says there are a couple of options to purchase tickets.
"We have a little booth just outside the theatre where people can purchase ticket the day of if they choose," Schnayer said. "On top of that they could also go on our website which has a link where people can purchase tickets in advance."
Tickets are $14 each and can be purchased online at WindsorJewishFilmFestival.ca
