Windsor International Film Festival Executive Director Vincent Georgie is clear on how the Oscar fumble for Best Picture winner happened.
He was at a viewing party with people from Lions Gate, the distributors of "La La Land" who were all excited when their film was announced as winner.
Georgie told AM800 listeners of the Morning Drive you can't blame Faye Dunaway or Warren Beatty who were the presenters.
He says the responsibility was on the accountants who were supposed to hand the winning envelope to the presenters.
Georgie explains there are 2 sets of envelopes the accountants from Price Waterhouse Coopers have, 2 full sets of envelopes and there are 2 accountants on site, each has the full set and they also know who won with one of each of them stationed at each of the wings one either side stage left and right.
He says it was the PwC accountant who made the mistake: "when Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty each went out to give best picture instead of giving the original Best Picture envelope they gave the duplicate Best Actress one as they walked out. If you go back to the video feed of it you'll see it say Actress in a Leading Role on the envelope"
He says this big a mess-up will have to be reviewed and a full fledged investigation is likely.
The accounting firm has already issued an apology for its staff failing to hand the correct envelope to the presenters.
