The world renowned Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research at the University of Windsor is getting a major boost.
A $5.5-million grant is a collaborative funding of the federal government and five partners.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada is the major funder at nearly $2-million with partnering funding from Ford, Enwin, Bombardier and Narmco.
Council Director of Manufacturing, Communication and Technology, Pamela Moss, says a lot of the funding is for student researchers.

Moss says this is a unique project.
"It's exciting because of the different companies that are coming together, sometimes we see either a collaboration between one company and the university and a number of resources and research, but to see different ones, Bombardier from aerospace, Ford from the automotive sector and energy company"
Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research Director General Dr. Roman Maev with funding partners, University of Windsor, May 10, 2018 (by AM800's Peter Langille)
Institute Director General, Dr. Roman Maev says the multi-faceted project involves a lot of people.
"It will be four or five other professors involved who can help me as part of my team, plus maybe a dozen research associates post doctoral fellows and a dozen students, so it's a big team"
The project will explore technology for diagnostic imaging of spot welding and resilient coatings.
The funding is spread over five years and Dr. Maev says it has the potential for more industrial uses.
