For the first time in fifteen years, the Windsor Goodfellows Newspaper Drive has reached and surpassed its goal.
It raised more than $296,699 over the three days in November and donations are still coming in.
The goal was $250,000.
For the past 101 years, volunteers with the newspaper drive have sold newspapers at major intersections throughout the city and neighbouring municipalities.
Drive Chair Bruce Tait credits decent weather and more volunteers for this year's success.
"Some of the teams had a lot more people this year than in the past. People were coming up to the team captains to volunteer and I think we had more people out," says Tait.
Prior to this year, the most the newspaper drive had raised was $241,000 about 4-5 years ago.
The money raised from the sales is used for the annual Christmas box, shoe and boot and breakfast programs as well as the local food bank.
