Hiatus House is asking residents and local businesses to "paint the town purple".
November is 'Woman Abuse Prevention Month' across the province and to mark the occasion the tree at Charles Clark Square was lit purple Tuesday night.
Debra Fowler is with Hiatus House and says the 'Shine the Light on Woman Abuse' campaign helps give battered woman a voice.
She says they're hoping the public will wear purple on November 15 as well.
"Showing support to women who are still stuck in situations where they can't get out and it's a little bit of a visual life line letting them know that the community is behind them so that they don't have to live in fear. It's a hard road to get out of abuse and women need to have somebody support them."
Fowler says it's all about raising awareness.
"We find many, many women never call shelters. They never call social services. They never call police. So it's important just to come out into the community and educate people because they're the neighbours, friends and families that they might talk to."
Caesars Windsor will also be lit purple all November.
Last year, Hiatus House helped 4,000 victims of abuse and their families.
