The Ronald McDonald House at Windsor Regional Hospital is benefiting from the sale of those Windsor firefighter calendars.
The Windsor Professional Firefighters Association presented a cheque worth $26,130 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwestern Ontario to help in the operations of the facility here in Windsor and London.
The house inside the hospital in Windsor opened in May and already 72 families have stayed there and another 300 families have used it to have a snack or a nap.
"We couldn't pick a better charity," says Professional Firefighters Association Executive Member Wayne Currie. "The community responded quite well with it and helped to meet our goal to sell all the calendars and make a substantial donation here."
Ronald McDonald House Charities for Southwestern Ontario Director of Development Jenne Wason says the house has already helped so many people locally.
"Having this new house here in Windsor and having this local support from the firefighters who do so much for this community really sends a great message about how we are helping Windsor families," she says.
The Ronald McDonald House allows families of sick children to stay in a cozy atmosphere, like a home away from home, while their child is in the hospital.
