Windsor Fire & Rescue has launched a smoke alarm blitz.
Chief Stephen Laforet says the blitz begins on Monday and will last six weeks.
He says fire officials will be visiting four areas in the city making sure residents have working smoke alarms.
Laforet says this year's blitz includes homes and residential units up to and including four storey buildings.
"We've seen through some of our data that we're still experiencing a significant number of fires in multi unit residences so we're now including that in our smoke alarm program," says Laforet.
For existing homes and residential units, working smoke alarms must be located on every floor and one outside sleeping areas.
Tickets for non working or disconnected smoke alarms is $360.
A second blitz is planned for the spring.
