COVID-19 patients are being moved to a field hospital set-up at the St.Clair College SportsPlex.
Windsor Regional Hospital has transformed the space to provide 100 beds, which will soon be filled by residents of long-term care and retirement homes in the area.
CEO David Musyj told AM800's The Morning Drive that they will be caring for those residents in an effort to "provide some stability and relief" for long-term care and retirement homes struggling with COVID-19, while segregating the residents who are positive from those who are not.
Musyj says the first patients will arrive this weekend.
"To start with we're going to be having 25 positive residents starting Saturday and eventually work our way up to 100 residents in this facility," he says.
Musyj says the field hospital is now a registered campus of Windsor Regional Hospital under the Public Hospitals Act, and is now being referred to as the Windsor Regional Hospital-St.Clair Campus.
"Our staff, our clinical staff will be taking care of them. We have registered nurses and registered practical nurses taking care of the patients. As well, our physician team will be on site to do rounding of the patients, so that's all been set-up," he says.
Musyj adds that this area is the first to begin caring for long-term care and retirement patients in a field hospital setting.
