A Windsor family is looking for help for their baby girl.
Five-month-old Madalayna Ducharme was recently diagnosed with a genetic disorder called malignant infantile osteopetrosis.
It's a genetic disorder that attacks the vision, hearing and ultimately is life threatening.
Tamara Ducharme posted a plea for help on her Facebook page as Madalayna is in need of a bone marrow stem cell transplant.
Ducharme says getting a bone marrow match sooner rather than later is crucial.
"When I heard cancer would be better, I thought what, cancer is not better, Cancer is the big C word that everyone is afraid of, when you look into this disease, there are more things that happen within a timeframe and in a fast period," says Ducharme.
It all started during a two-month check-up when the doctor found Madalayna's fontanel was swollen.
Ducharme says the disorder attacks the vision, then hearing and ultimately could be life threatening.
"Her bones are not capable of breaking down the way they are suppose to be as she grows which makes them more dense which allows her bones in her head to sooner or later cut off the nerve in her eyes so she can not see."
Ducharme says despite what is happening to her, Madalayna is a happy baby.
The family is asking people between the ages of 17 and 35 to sign up to be on the one-match-registry.
It is a quick swab of you mouth to register.
There is a swab event in Madalayna's name at St. Clair College on January 26th from 9:30am to 3:30pm.
A valid health care is needed.
