The City of Windsor is sponsoring the Detroit Grand Prix for the 9th straight year.
It's a relationship that goes back almost to the Superbowl held in Detroit.
The city invests $50,000 which includes a special Canadian ticket package and the Windsor grandstand.
This year's "Duel in Detroit" goes on Belle Isle June 1 to 3rd.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says the involvement in motor racing is growing in Windsor.
Dilkens says it's money well spent.
"The investment we make has actually gone down over time, frankly they've never asked us for more money and we pay in Canadian dollars." Dilkens says "We've kept that investment stable and we think it's a reasonable investment for the return we get as a community invested in an event like that."
He says there's more to the relationship than just the racing.
"To be able to be connected with people like Roger Penske and the Governor and Detroit Mayor, these are opportunities for Windsor people and people in leadership in Windsor to have those connections and develop those relationships which we think are very important for a number of strategic initiatives "
The Canadian involvement in the Detroit Grand Prix is significant, beyond the sity's sponsorship.
Race Chairman Bud Denker says about 10% of the people coming to Belle Isle are Canadian.

"Between 9,000 and 10,000 people coming over for our race come from the Canadian side, so always been big supporters of the event" says Denker. "We always have people with Canadian flags in the stands and we also have companies that come over as well"
Mayor Dilkens points to well known celebrities like David Letterman coming to Windsor because of the race.
