The province is moving Windsor-Essex to the orange pandemic alert level starting on Monday.
That means bars and restaurants will have to close at 10 p.m. and liquor cannot be served after 9 p.m. with indoor dining restricted to four people at a table.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says COVID 19 case counts in Windsor-Essex are increasing faster than public health officials can handle.
Despite every measure in place, he says it's still up to the people to follow the rules.
"Even though 90 per cent of people are following, if 10 per cent of the people aren't not following that can result in a significant widespread transmission of COVID-19," he says. "It has to be all of us."
The health unit announced 45 new cases Friday with 18 still under investigation and 13 from close contact.
Eleven out of the 230 active cases being monitored by the health unit are in hospital.
Michigan officials reported a single-day record 9,779 new coronavirus cases Friday.
