Relay For Life events are being cancelled in London and St. Thomas, but that's not the case in Windsor-Essex.
The Canadian Cancer Society points to declining enrolment and revenue as the reasons for scrapping the fundraising events.
Community Fundraising Specialist with the Canadian Cancer Society Windsor-Essex branch Kelly O'Rourke says the fundraiser is still viable in the region with about 400 people coming out every year.
"We want to make sure everybody knows that Relay For Life in Windsor-Essex is a go," says O'Rourke.
The event this year is planned for June 9 in Kingsville at Colasanti's Tropical Gardens.
"We held an event there last year and it was a great success. People in Windsor-Essex still embrace Realy For Life and we're very much looking forward to it," says O'Rourke.
She says the event is still an important fundraising tool for the local branch.
"We're actually hoping to grow a little this year. We've seen numbers go down slightly, but people in this area seem to really support us. It's an important event and cancer changes everying — so can you," says O'Rourke.
She adds the Relay For Life event in June is still open to new registrations.
