The hot weather has arrived with a bang and according to the Weather Network's summer outlook, it's here to stay.
Meteorologist Michael Carter says the temperatures we've been seeing the past few days are likely a taste of things to come in June and July.
He says the heat often brings thunderstorms as well.
"Southwestern Ontario has a reputation for being a stormy spot and that certainly is going to be a potential this year as we are seeing a lot of gulf moisture on the map, a lot of humidity, a lot of potential to provide fuel for those thunderstorms through the summer season."
Carter says air quality could be an issue through the summer.
"It certainly comes hand in hand when we get flow out of the south, those southerly winds, they bring the heat, they also bring the moisture, the humidity and that's what really ramps up those humidex values. We can get some air quality issued with that. So certainly something we'll be watching really throughout the summer."
He says late summer should cool off a bit.
"We do think, perhaps, the summer will be a little bit front loaded. A lot of our heat will occur at the beginning of the season in June and July. Later in the season we may see the heat backing off just a little bit, but warmer at the beginning becoming a little cooler at the end."
Carter adds, for the last couple of years summer heat has lingered well into September, but based on the current patterns that's not expected to be the case this year as fall-like temperatures should arrive on time or even a bit early.
