The first baby of the year in Windsor-Essex is a little girl named Vivian.
She arrived at 4:32 a.m. on January 1st at the Met Campus of Windsor Regional Hospital.
The proud and happy parents are Junxuan Zhao and Dacheng Wei, whose 8 lb 1 oz baby girl was an early surprise. She was not due to be born until January 9th.
Wei says the attention has been overwhelming.
"My whole family felt excited. Wow, they said, this is a first-year baby," Wei says. "All our friends sent good message to us, saying this baby is amazing -- a New Year baby. We just feel excited, it's fantastic."
The little girl was also the 50th first baby of the year born in Canada.
Wei says the name Vivian is her English name, and they will consult with family members before deciding on her Chinese name.
"Finally the dream came true, but we didn't know it will be the first baby in Windsor," Wei says. "I just thought the baby was so beautiful. When the baby came to our lives, it was a magical experience."
The parents have been livingĀ in Canada since 2008. They are happy Vivian is born Canadian.
