A Windsor doctor, found not guilty of sexual assault, has been suspended by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Dr. Bassam El-Tatari, 46, has had his certificate of registration suspended for five months and been ordered to complete a doctor-patient relationship course.
Back in September 2018 following a trial, Dr. El-Tatari was acquitted on six counts of sexually assaulting six different women.
The women had testified the doctor inappropriately touched them in a sexual manner while doing medical exams.
The college found based on a statement of uncontested facts, Dr. El-Tatari committed an act of professional misconduct at his offices in Windsor and Tecumseh.
It found between 2011 and 2015 with eight of his patients, Dr. El-Tatari would hug them, touch their faces with his hand or make inappropriate comments--making them feel uncomfortable.
Following the suspension, conditions will be placed on his certificate of registration which include the doctor not being allowed to engage in any professional encounters, unless a college approved monitor is present.
He also has to pay the college $6,000.
