A Windsor doctor has resigned and will not be able to practice following the findings of an opioid investigation.
Dr. Robert Cameron, 65, was found guilty of professional misconduct by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
He practices at a walk-in clinic on Sandwich St. in Windsor.
In November 2016, the college began investigating some physicians related to their opioid prescriptions, based on data received from the provincial government's Narotic Monitoring System.
84 doctors in the province were investigated resulting in one, Dr. Cameron, being referred to a discipline hearing which took place March 26.
In the decision, it found 'Dr. Cameron had a tendency to prescribe narcotics at doses well in excess of those recommended in the relevant clinical guidelines.'
It says 'Dr. Cameron demonstrated questionable and at times very poor judgement in continuing to prescribe large doses of narcotics to patients.'
Dr. Cameron agreed to resign from the college effective April 30, 2018 and will not re-apply for his registration as a physician in Ontario or any other jurisdiction.
