Construction of the new Ambassador Bridge is kicking into high gear with Windsor's TCI Titan Group earning one of the first contracts for the project.
As heard on CTV Windsor, the company will build the $50-million truck inspection plaza that will be on the Canadian side of the border.
The 9.5 acre plaza will be built just west of the new bridge on Indian Rd.
TCI Titan Group President Art Ussoletti says the company has been responsible for big projects from here to Toronto — but this one is special.
"As we were awarded the project, I went and looked at the history of the bridge and being part of what I think is a really monumental and historical build," says Ussoletti.

Detroit International Bridge Company spokesperson Stan Korosec says TCI Titan Group will also be responsible for building a stand-alone border services building.
"The building will be designed so that it fits in with the nature of the west end," says Korosec. "Not a steel and glass type thing, it's being designed so that it will fit in with the nature of historic Sandwich."
Ussoletti says engineers and architects have already been brought on board and will be hiring for more construction jobs soon.
"That really lays into the bridge company's philosophy of keeping it local and keeping it Canadian so, I think that's a huge, huge factor," says Ussoletti.
Currently, all secondary truck inspections are done offsite — about 2km down Huron Church Rd. on Industrial Dr.
The bridge company is hoping to have the new Ambassador spans completed by 2020.
