Today is the last day any business will be conducted at the current Windsor City Hall.
The new city hall, directly next to the old building, is set to open to the public at noon on Tuesday, May 22nd.
City staff and movers will be working through the May long weekend, transferring equipment and materials to the new building.
Project Administrator Stacey McGuire says a lot of work has gone into this move. "We've had a move coordination committee for the last year or so with representatives from all the different departments and we've been meeting monthly, and now as often as weekly or more, to talk about how the different departments logistically can move over here," says McGuire. "We have hired a move consultant and they have helped us through the process as well."
Once the move begins, McGuire says staff will be working around the clock all weekend. "The entire weekend will be fully staffed and we'll be here to help the movers and answer any questions they have. We want this to go as smoothly as possible," she says.
Neither the old city hall or new city hall will be open between 8:30am and noon on Tuesday to give the 280 city employees time to get acquainted with their new workstations.
The official public grand opening and tour will take place Saturday, May 26 as part of the City of Windsor's birthday celebration.
