Windsor city council now has the data it needs to review any possible changes to the snow removal budget.
The current budget stands at $4.9-million, but some councillors requested data from other municipalities on how they deal with big snow storms.
For example, Ottawa's snow removal budget is $68-million while London's is $14-million.
Speaking on AM800's the Lynn Martin Show, Windsor Engineer Mark Winterton says services cost money and it all depends on what residents want and what they are willing to pay.
"Last winter was a little bit more severe, but the two before that were quite mild and the two before that were record setting so it is hot and cold so to speak," he says.
He admits Windsor's budget is lower than other municipalities because of our weather and salt costs are lower.
Right now, the city plows residential streets when there is at least 4-inches of snow during a snow storm, but that is one option to consider.
"We get on any given big snow storm, it is not uncommon to get 1,000 complaints and that's a big number and we struggle with that," Winterton adds.
Winterton says removing windrows, which is the big pile of snow at the end of a driveway after the plows pass by, would add $2.8-million to the budget but he says most municipalities don't provide that service.
