If you live in the City of Windsor and need sandbags to protect your home, you will have to call 311.
City officials say they will continue to make sandbags available for residents living along Riverside Drive East, but starting Thursday -- those residents will have to make an appointment to meet staff and pick them up at the sandbag station.
Previously, the sandbag station has been open during the day since May 8.
Appointments will be made for between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and residents will still be asked to show proof of address.
According to city officials, the initial surge of resident need has been met, so the change to a pre-ordering system is now the most efficient option.
The sandbag station is located at 9410 Little River Road -- just west of the Little River Bridge and the roundabout -- and is available to residents living between George Avenue and east to the Town of Tecumseh border, living on the north side of Riverside Drive.
Emergency preparedness officials say they continue to monitor weather conditions and the water levels of the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair, both of which remain well above traditional averages.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority also has a flood warning in effect for the region due to the high risk of overland flooding from heavy rain or high winds.
