It was a sea of flags from around the world at the downtown aquatic centre.
As part of Canadian Multiculturalism Day, the Multicultural Council of Windsor-Essex organized a huge group photograph with community leaders holding international flags.
It was originally suppose to take place at the Great Canadian Flag outside at the foot of Riverside Drive and Ouellette, but mother nature forced the photo-op indoors.
More than 100 people including Mayor Drew Dilkens, Windsor police, LaSalle police and United Way officials attended the photo-op.
Council Director of Programs and Development Fred Francis says a picture is worth a thousand words.
"We really are a mosaic where people can come here and obviously they celebrate being Canadian and Canadian culture, but part of being Canadian is that we celebrate other cultures," Francis says.
He points out newcomers have loved settling down in Windsor-Essex.
"From what I hear from a lot of different immigrants is that it was the best choice they have ever made because this has been a great place for them to lay down roots, raise a family, get a job and contribute back to the community."
Francis says 20-25% of people in Windsor-Essex identify themselves as having immigrated here from a different country.
The Government of Canada designated June 27th as Canadian Multiculturalism Day.
