A softening in the number of housing starts in December in the Windsor area did not put a damper on the housing market for the year.
91 units were under construction in December compared to 108 units in December 2015.
But for the year, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports starts hit 1,266 compared to 1,010 for 2015.
Senior Market Analyst Anthony Passarelli says the trend was lower in December mostly due to fewer starts of single-detached homes.
But he says despite that, the total number of single-detached starts in 2016 was the highest since 2005 which helped to push 2016 total starts to its highest level in more than a decade.
