A number of events are happening across the region this weekend, including the Taylor Swift concert in Detroit, Poutine Feast at Festival Plaza and Strawberry Festival in LaSalle causing a sell out of inventory for Windsor area hotels.
Gordon Orr, CEO, Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island says this is a good problem to have.
"Events such as the Taylor Swift concert or conferences or swim meets or any sort of event that brings people here, they have the opportunity to experience Windsor-Essex first hand. And then they go back go back and they're ambassadors for our community and they help tell our story."
Orr notes that this is the first summer in three years with no COVID restrictions in effect and they are looking forward to having an uniterrupted summer.
He says 'Art in the Park' last weekend set the pace with over 20,000 people in attendance, and is hopeful that is a positive sign of a rebound with how things will go the for the rest of the summer...
"There is pent up demand. People do want to get out. People do want to be involved in community events and they want to visit our tourism attractions. So we're hoping it's a great weekend for our tourism and hospitality community."
He says the industry is ready to welcome our American friends this summer with no more COVID-19 border restrictions in effect.
"I Know that family and friends are congregating because they can and they are celebrating together. And that's why we are so blessed to have so many community events on multiple weekends through the summer season into the fall. So there's no reason to stay home. There's lots to see and do. We encourage you to get out and support local this weekend in Windsor-Essex."
