Environment Canada has issued a Strong Wind Warning for Lake Erie which could result in further shoreline erosion in Chatham-Kent.
Waves could top 1.5 metres by Wednesday because of southwesterly winds that are expected to gust up to 40 km/h.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has posted a Safety Bulletin for Erie Shore Drive after flooding from winds that reached 35 km/h.
Tim Byrne, ERCA's flood management coordinator, says says a 'Floot Outlook' is in effect for the west side of Pelee Island and from Point Pelee to Kingsville.
"There are already areas of that island that the rock has pulled fully away from the island and you basically have earth fill, clay, exposed now to waves in that area along the coast of Pelee Island. The storm generated wave out there can be an 8-10ft wave," says Byrne.
He says Pelee Island is in a lot of trouble, "If it blows for as hard as it's going to for the duration it's going to, we may have to consider upgrading to a flood warning for the island. As I said, we're gravely concerned about the condition of breakwall structures along that west coast of Pelee Island, they could be in a lot of trouble."
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority says the most dire conditions are expected Friday when winds reach 50 km/h.
The 'Flood Outlook' is in effect until 9am Saturday — residents are asked to pay attention to conditions and prepare accordingly.
