Complaints about contaminated water wells in Chatham-Kent have arrived in Queens Park.
Essex MPP Taras Natyshak raised the issue during Question Period Tuesday.
"Why is this PC government taking the same approach as the old Liberal government and refusing to initiate a health hazard investigation? Where is the health hazard investigation that the Premier promised the people of Chatham-Kent-Essex?"
Members of Water Wells First contend the pile-driving used to erect the giant wind turbine towers has stirred up the shale sediment which can contain heavy metals.
Ontario Infrastructure Minister Monte McNaughton responded the study had begun.
"I'm proud to say that already that work has begun, Mister Speaker. The minister of health has directed Ontario's Chief Medical Officer to begin reviewing data and past collections and begin getting answers for the impacted families in Chatham-Kent," said McNaughton.
But Natyshak was not satisfied and called for more immediate help, asking "what immediate action is this government undertaking to determine the full nature and the extent of contamination from sediments released in this region's watershed?"
McNaughton pointed out his government had already cancelled one wind turbine project in the same area of Chatham-Kent with the termination of the Green Energy Act.
