The Windsor Spitfires moved into a first place tie in the OHL's West Division after beating the Flint Firebirds 7-5 at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.
Windsor scored three goals in the third period to break open the game after it was tied 4-4 over the first two frames.
Egor Afanasyev scored twice for Windsor, including a big goal with six seconds remaining in the second period to tie the game 4-4.
Spitfires (6-3-1) Kyle McDonald, Curtis Douglas, Luke Boka, and Cole Purboo also pitched in with Tyler Angle adding another into an empty net.
That makes 10 points in 10 games for Afanasyev, who says he's beginning to adapt to life in the OHL.
"It's a different league and now I feel confident a lot, just got to keep going like this," he says. "I mean, against Flint, they're in our division so it's always nice to get a win like that."
Angle credits Xavier Medina and his 33 saves for helping Windsor pull out a win in the third period.
"Obviously we had a big game by X [Medina] in net and I think that helped a lot, especially in the last three minutes of there. He made a couple big saves with a one goal lead," says Angle. "Our powerplay had two goals and our penalty kill had a big effect on the game and I think that's what won us this game."
Flint (5-3-0) goals were scored by Vladislav Kolyachonok with two, Ty Dellandrea, Jake Durham and Owen Lalonde, who played in Windsor's Riverside Minor Hockey system.
Windsor is now tied with Saginaw atop the West Division with 13 points.
The Spitfires will play the Knights (3-3-1) in London on Friday.
