The Windsor International Film Festival is beaming over a successful weekend of its annual 'Under the Stars' event.
The event featured a large LED screen on the lawn of Windsor City Hall, where free films were shown for the community to enjoy.
Over 800 community members attended over the three day event, where 20 films were shown ranging from Encanto, The Mighty Ducks, and Back to the Future.
The star of the weekend was the Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick double feature on Saturday night, which brought out a large audience.
Vincent Georgie, Executive Director and Chief Programmer for Windsor International Film Festival, says this was a great event to kick off summer.
"Really, really great, we had over 800 people join us. We had some rain on Sunday but Friday and Saturday were really rocking. So, that was a lot of fun because it's a free event, everyone was able to come and just enjoy some films and just have a good time to really sick off summer. So, we were really happy to see so many people, so many families come out and just enjoy."
He says they received a lot of praise from the community for hosting this event.
"The comment we got above all was just people saying 'thank you', or 'this is great, thank you', 'thanks for doing this, I'm happy to be here'. It was really, really positive which everybody needs and for the WIFF we think it's really important to do things in the community that makes the community better."
He says the team is looking at the possibility of hosting more than one weekend.
"We definitely have conversations around it, it's obviously quite costly to put on. We rent a giant LED wall so that the picture is amazing, beautiful, and do some big sounds and all that. So, there's some significant cost around it. But, I'll put it to you this way, some of the team is already looking at having bringing back a recurring, overtime, of doing some more free outdoor events because we love it, the community loved it."
Georgie says there are still many WIFF events coming up for the community to take part in, including the film festival which runs from October 26 to November 5.
