48 schools across the country have been ranked in a new study
It's a major decision for most graduating high school students: go away or stay home for school.
Maclean's has examined what each option would cost at 48 schools in Canada ranked by the magazine.
Students who stay home and attend the University of Windsor will spend an average of $9,900 for a year's education while UWindsor students from out-of-town will spend $17,291.
For those who choose to move away for school, the magazine looked at the cost of tuition, rent, groceries, food on campus, traveling home, books, alcohol, daily travel and extracurricular for an average student at each of the ranked schools. The University of Toronto topped the list at $23,485. Université de Sherbrooke was last at $11,556. The University of Windsor placed 38th on the list at $17,291.
Maclean's also added up how much students who live at home spent on tuition, food, daily travel, books, alcohol and extracurricular activities to offer a total cost for a year’s education. York University was first on the list at $12,300. Université de Sherbrooke was again at the bottom at $4,284. The University of Windsor was 25th on the list at $9,900.
