It's been 10-years since Windsor's WFCU Centre opened its doors.
Fans attending Thursday night's game between the Windsor Spitfires and the Barrie Colts were treated to cake, music and a few words from Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ward 6 Councillor Jo-Anne Gignac.
The facility features a 6,500 seat arena with four community rinks, a gym, a pool, and party and conference rooms. It is also home to several community groups and the Windsor Spitfires who moved to the facility from downtown Windsor in December of 2008.
Executive Director of Recreation and Culture Ray Mensour says the building has seen a lot of history in its short lifetime. "The Spitfires three championships and the Windsor Express have one a couple championships. It's just a wonderful facility for them and all our community users and everyone involved."
Mensour adds it has become more than just an arena over the years. "We have a pool, we have major tenants in the facility. It's really truly a centre for everybody."
The centre cost $71-million to complete in 2008. It underwent a $7-million expansion to accommodate a 25-metre pool for the FINA World Swimming Championships in 2016.
Several events are planned to celebrate its 10th anniverary including free skates, discounts, parties and giveaways.
