The local agriculture industry is hoping for drier, warmer weather for the next while.
Several days of rain, followed by frost overnights has been a challenge for farmers.
Leo Guilbeault is a Belle River area cash crop farmer and former board member of the Grain Farmers of Ontario.
He says the fields will need to dry out for several days before farmer can get their heavy equipment out to start tilling and planting.
Guilbeault says the cool, wet weather came before the main planting started: "it hasn't affected it too much because not much has started yet. The weather has been so backwards here the last month we haven't had too much planted in the field there's the odd corn or soybean field planted across the county, but not much I would say under 2%"
He says the winter wheat is faring well in these conditions because it likes the cooler wet weather.
Guilbeault says farmers hope the dry, warmer weather stays here for a while. No one's in a panic mode, but if it's the same situation in 2 weeks that's a different story.
Guilbeault says the overnight frost is worrying for both grape growers and for fruit farmers.
