An advocate for the west end is worried about the 'unknowns' following Thursday's announcement on the new Gordie Howe International Crossing.
The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority announced the proponent 'Bridging North America' will build, design, finance, operate and maintain the new crossing over the Detroit River.
Authority Vice President of Communications and Stakeholder Relations Heather Grondin says as part of the technical requirements, proponents had to submit a community benefit plan which are 'basically completed.'
Details of the 'community benefit plan' won't be released until the financial close in September.
"I really object to somebody else making those decisions other than the people who are living in the community," says Mary Ann Cuderman, past chair and secretary of the Sandwich Improvement Area. "I'm hoping that some dialogue can take place on that.
Cuderman hopes the city invests in making a park at the foot of Russell and Mill St. in order to enjoy the views of the new crossing which will be a cable-stayed bridge.
