Dr. Gary Kirk is stepping down as Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Windsor Essex County Health Unit.
Health unit board chair Gary McNamara made the announcement Friday afternoon alongside Dr. Kirk
The health unit is now in the process of creating a plan to replace him.
Dr. Kirk says the reason for his resignation is due to family reasons. He will continue to serve the health unit until his final day.
"Between now and my last day I will continue to oversee the day to day operations of the health unit," says Dr. Kirk. "I will continue to work closely with the Board of Health and will advance all activities that I am currently a part of and work to make the transition as seamless as possible."
Dr. Kirk says he is grateful for the time he spent in Windsor-Essex.
"I am resigning purely because of family circumstances," says Dr. Kirk. "My aging father in Illinois needs me to be closer to him due to declining health."
Dr. Kirk says he is looking forward to his new position and will stay in touch.
His last day is June 6th.
