The VP or Critical Care at Windsor Regional Hospital warns that we have not reached our peak.
Speaking on AM800's The Morning Drive, Karen Riddel says the numbers will increase in Ontario and Windsor-Essex when it comes to COVID-19.
Since the opening of a testing centre in London on Monday, Riddel says results have been coming back much quicker but there are still 450 in the queue.
“For people that are in the community that came to our assessment centre and then we have over 50 patients that are in-patients in the hospital that are waiting for test results.”
According to Riddell, the 50 people that are in the hospital are all being re-tested so results can be sent to London and returned sooner.
"Because right now we are treating them all obviously as if they are potential COVID cases," she says. "Dr. Saad spoke yesterday about the use of PPE [personal protective equipment] and how we’re trying to conserve that as much as possible but still keeping our healthcare workers safe so, we need those results as fast as possible.”
Riddell expects more announcements in the coming days as results continue to come in and points to Michigan as an example.
"There has been a rapid increase in cases in Michigan and in Detroit specifically," she says. "Certainly we will see an increase in cases over the coming days and weeks so it remains really important that everybody stays I place. If you don’t need to go out, don’t go out, that’s really going to help us slow down the transmission.”
