The W.E. Care for Kids Foundation is donating over a quarter of a million dollars to help buy new equipment at Windsor Regional Hospital.

The local children’s charity presented $268,628 to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation during a presentation Tuesday.

The annual donation will help cover the cost of equipment in the Paediatric Unit, Family Birthing Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Surgery.

This year’s funding helped purchase a newborn jaundice meter for the Family Birthing Centre, paediatric ventilators for the NICU, and ultraslim paediatric scopes for the Surgical Unit.

Windsor Regional Hospital President and CEO Kristen Kennedy says they could not survive without community outreach, donations, and foundations that support the hospitals.

“As many in the community may or may not know, equipment is not always funded by the province or through our healthcare funding at large, so it is pivotal for us to be able to run our day-to-day operations that we have this commitment and outreach from very important partners like W.E. Care for Kids,” she says.

Executive Director of the W.E. Care for Kids Foundation Viki Grado says they are very blessed to have an incredible, loyal group of donors who support their campaigns.

“This year in particular, we got a big boost from Fortis. They gave us the proceeds from their golf tournament, and then we were the recipients of the Smile Cookie, so that really gave us a big boost to give a little extra this year, which was amazing,” she says.

W.E. Care for Kids raises funds to support local paediatric programs through foundation-run events and initiatives.
