The mayor of Windsor has shared a video on social media of an explosion that knocked out power at Windsor City Hall.
Mayor Drew Dilkens shared on Wednesday a cellphone video of an explosion and posted that crews are working hard to restore power to 400 City Hall Square.
An explosion and fire Tuesday morning knocked out the power and halted services at 350 City Hall Square and 400 City Hall Square.
It was initially believed the cause was due to a blown transformer, but an investigation revealed it was a cable failure in an underground electrical conduit.
"Repairs to the underground electrical conduit and cabling which caught fire early Tuesday morning are proving challenging but contract crews are optimistic they can have power restored by end of day Thursday allowing for a re-opening of the building on Friday, January 26, 2024," says a statement issued Wednesday afternoon by the city.
Crews were able to open 350 City Hall Square Wednesday morning and some staff from the 400 City Hall Square building have relocated to ensure continuity of services.
Services that continue to be impacted by the on-going closure of the 400 building include the Provincial Offences Courts, Service Ontario and Service Canada.
