The Chatham-Kent Police Service is reminding drivers to watch out for wildlife.
The warning comes after police responded to a collision last week involving a deer, which caused about $6000 damage to a vehicle.
According to police, the driver was not physically injured but officers want to remind drivers to be more vigilant on the roads especially since the harvesting of wheat is in full swing.
Police say that has animals like deer on the move and that most collisions with deer happen between dusk and dawn.
Chatham-Kent police have shared some tips to help reduce collisions, save lives and protect wildlife:
– Scan the road ahead from shoulder-to-shoulder for any movement.
– Use high beams at night, when possible, and watch for the glowing eyes of animals.
– If an animal is crossing the road, stop as safely as possible, in your lane.
– Remember, if one animal crosses the road, others may follow.
– Never swerve suddenly. This may cause you to lose control of your vehicle, resulting in a more serious collision.
