The councillor representing downtown Windsor continues to hear from upset residents and business owners.
Rino Bortolin says he has received a number of calls, emails and texts from individuals speaking out against Monday night's council decision to eliminate retail on the ground floor of the Pelissier Street Parking Garage and replacing it with parking.
He says council went against so many groups living and working in the area.
"Business owners across the street, business owners down the street, the BIA that represents all the businesses downtown, residents, residents not immediately in the core, residents in the condos, people who use the parking downtown, people who come downtown, all those people wanted something and we said no," says Bortolin.
Council voted 7-4 to spend $500,000 to convert the space from retail to parking.
There are currently three tenants and they will be given six months to vacate.
The mid-80's was the last time the parking garage's ground level retail space was 100% occupied.
