Windsor City Councillor Fabio Costante is excited for the next steps in a Community Improvement Plan that includes Ward 2.
A report on the plan that will also cover part of Ward 3 will be presented at Windsor's Development and Heritage Standing Committee later today.
Wyandotte Street and University Avenue, west of Crawford Avenue, is a major concentration of the program.
A corridor Costante says is turning around with recent commitments to redeveloper several derelict properties including the former Grace Hospital site.
"When you look at these developments, things are happening. It's very encouraging that the market is lending itself to these opportunities," says Costante. "City council can, in its jurisdiction can provide this framework that encourages even more smart development and that's what I'm really excited about."
Costante says a CIP for the two major connecting roads is imperative.
"It is past due and I'm totally excited," he says. "These are the types of projects for me that are transformational in nature."
Costante says upcoming streetscaping on both roads will work hand in hand with the CIP.
"You've got an amazing opportunity right now to develop strong active transportation and really ... smart development for our inner city," he added.
The report identifies what's already vibrant and stable in the area, public works enhancements, areas in the midst of transition and vacant land in need redevelopment.
The committee begins its livestream at 4:30 p.m.
