It's been a year since the new pedestrian crossover in Walkerville has been in place, and the councillor for the area is pleased with the results.
The pedestrian crossover was installed in August 2018 on Wyandotte Street East at Chilver.
Ward 4 Councillor Chris Holt says it has helped to improve safety in the area for residents and visitors who are going to the different restaurants.
"From all accounts it has been a success," he says. "Pedestrians in the area and there is lots of them travelling back and forth across the street, really appreciate the city putting something in place to help them cross the street safely."
Although pedestrians are using it, Holt admits some drivers are still perplexed by it.
"There is growing pains obviously. There is a lot of criticisms that motorists don't stop or don't know what to do at these crossings. But it was the first one in the city, the first one of this style in the city."
The cost of the project was $69,000.
