If you live in Windsor, you may get a visit from a firefighter, soon.
Windsor Fire and Rescue has launched its annual 'Wake Up Windsor, Get A Working Smoke Alarm' campaign. Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Lee says firefighters go door-to-door making sure homes are in compliance with the law.."It's Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This campaign runs for eight weeks and it's voluntary so, when we attend the house, we're going to check for smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, general house keeping issues and answer any questions that the residents may have.
Lee adds, even though have working alarms are required by law, there are still many homes without one. "We're still seeing fairly significant numbers although it has improved, we're having about 20% more compliance then we had when the program started four years ago which is a substantial improvement."
Since the program started, 28,000 homes have been checked and 5,000 smoke alarms installed.
