Windsor-Essex Transgender and Allied Support now has a place to call home.
The new centre will be located at 111 Wyandotte St. W.
Executive Director Jayce Carver says they've been working out of spaces at the Welcome Centre Shelter For Women and Windsor Pride, but having a place of their own is a huge step forward in gaining acceptance in the local community.

"Being located close to downtown Windsor was a must," says Carver. "It's perfect timing too. Transgender Day of Visibility is March 31st and how much more visible can we be than securing our own space in the core of our city right on Wyandotte St. W.? I just think it speaks volumes to the strength that our community is building."
Carver says this is a first of its kind. "I've not heard of another one in any community and what we've heard from our community is often they feel like their issues are not being recognized. So by adding a trans-specific organization that's actually proven to its community that we're here to support them, but now having a space for them to go to, I feel is very empowering to our community members."
Carver adds, some minor renovation work will now take place at the new location with a goal of having a grand opening by the end of April.
W.E. Trans currently helps around 150 people each month, offering a wide range of support services.
