Students at Villanova High School in LaSalle have achieved a remarkable milestone in giving.
In the past 5 years they've gathered an amazing number of cans, mostly for the Sandwich Food Bank run by St. John Church.
The students spelled out the figure in cans in their main entrance.

"The students were asked to bring in 3 canned goods and some school items or a $2 donation. The money and the school items are going to be taken down to Costa Rica with our senior science students, this is part of our Destinations program"
Paling says the number of cans collected is unbelievable.
The Windsor Port Authority chips in as well. Christine Pare says they transport the cans and also donate.
Windsor Port Authority's Christine Pare, April 11, 2018 (by AM800's Peter Langille)
"2500 cans are collected twice a year so the Port Authority matches dollar-for-dollar on the cans and we give about $5000 to St. John Church each year. So it's a great program for the community it's good support for our team and our staff in our local area. How can you say no to the need when the need is there? You have to respond to it"
Paling and Pare both say the program is a good learning experience for the students who understand giving and charity better.
