Windsor Spitfires star Gabe Vilardi is heading to Los Angeles.
Vilardi was selected 11th overall by the LA Kings in the NHL Entry Draft being held in Chicago.
He led the Spitfires in goals with 29 last season as part of 61 points in 49 games. Vilardi added two goals and six points in seven playoff games.
Vilardi has a total of 99 points including 46 goals in 111 games across two seasons for the Spitfires.
Speaking to media in Chicago after being drafted, Vilardi says it's been a whirlwind going from the Memorial Cup to the NHL Draft.
"Yeah, it's been pretty hectic that's for sure, but it's been so much fun — it just keeps getting better," says Vilardi.
He adds finally hearing his name called was amazing.
"It's just joy," says Vilardi. "All your life you work so hard for this and to finally hear your name called, it's just an amazing feeling and to have your family there, it's even better."
Windsor Spitfires goalie Michael DiPietro is also expected to be drafted.
The Detroit Red Wings have selected centre Michael Rasmussen with the 9th overall pick while the Toronto Maple Leafs grabbed defenceman Timothy Liljegren with the 17th overall selection.
